The car is a 1997 Mazda Miata MX-5 Speedster. It was made in February of 1998 for the 1997 model year. The Speedster represents a Canadian special edition of which only 167 were sold. The special editions were all the same and came only the following options:

  • 15″ Enkei 5-Spoke Wheels
  • Torsen Limited Slip Differential
  • Rear Lip Spoiler
  • Nardi Wood Handbrake & Shifter
  • Marina Mica Green
  • “Speedster Edition” side and rear decals

This is a great enthusiast’s car. There are no driver aids, a manual transmisson, and a RWD chassis. Coupled with the car’s light weight and small dimensions this makes a great starting base for building driver skill.

The car in question here has had very few modifications done to it. It regularly competes in local Autocross events and is driven all year round and through the winter. The modification are small and allow me to compete in stock classes at Autocross. They are:

  • Tokico Illumina Adjustable Dampers
  • FatCatMotorports Progressive Bumpstops (For more compliant engagement and more suspension travel)
  • PBR Ultimate Brake Pads/Brembo Disc
  • Falken Azenis RT-615-K in 205-50-15

The car is on it’s third owner and has racked up 230,000kms and is still revving strong.
